Summary of Civilization:
At about 250 a.d. Mayan civilization reached its peak. At 900 a.d. mayan civilization declines. Mayan people still live in the area where their civilazation started.
Geography:
They lived on the Yucatan Peninsula - in the area that is currently Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras.
Climate:
The Maya lived in the warm, humid climate of the Yucatan Penninsula. While the geographic area of the Maya includes the mountains of the Sierra Madre, much of the land lies low and is vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms from the Carribean Sea.
Art and Architecture:

Mayan cities were constructed to pay tribute to the gods. The houses were usualy made of adobe or dried mud bricks. There temples were very large. The Mayans painted with there hands. They drew pictures of the dea, under world, and gods. They also drew hyrogliphics. They were bold people who were scared of the under world.
Culture ( Customs, Food, ect.): The Mayans maine food was maize. The Mayans allways new the time they were in on a calender because they thought it was very interesting. They also played the ball game, wich was very religous.
Technology (Farming, hunting?):
Mayans grew vast fields of maize corn bean and squash. Maize was the main crop for the Mayans. Some people believe that the Mayans disapeared from failure of crops.
math:
The Maya were very interested in time and numbers. they used calenders to keep track of victories, marriages, birth dates, and made sure they were honoring there gods on the right days. The Mayas used two different types of calenders, one for the solar seasons and one for sacred rights.
Family life:
Family was very important to the Mayas. Women and older girls were responsible for all house keeping chores, makeing clothes, supplying the home with fire wood and water, and careing for the children. Some of the cildrens toys had wheels.

Mayan games were very sacred. The Mayans thaught that the losing team would get sacrificed for the Gods. The cheerings of the fans was llike prayer. The goal of the game was to hit the ball onto the other side without them hitting it back. The court was called the ballcourt.
Religion:
The codex, or folding screen book, contained imformation about predicting the future. The Maya believed the gods ruled Maya life. They also believed the gods needed human sacrifices. Each codex was written or painted on fig leaf bark or animal skin, a preperation similar to papyrus makeing. The Mayans used fine brushes and covered them in bark or skin with a protective layer made from a pasty substance
